Spin is the last privilege in the cycle. If the basket still holds a lake, or the lid lock never clicked, many Whirlpool washers will sit there and look dead. Front-loaders and top-loaders share that logic even though the parts differ.
Do not bypass the lock. A basket at spin speed with the door open is the accident the lock exists to prevent.
Spin is refused for a reason
Look in the drum. If you see standing water, the problem is drain, not spin. A sock in a pump, a kinked drain hose, or a standpipe that is too high will cancel the high-speed spin on purpose.
The load that will not balance
One sopping bath mat in a front-loader, or a mixed load of towels and a single sneaker, can make the machine retry and then give up. Pull the heavy item, redistribute, and try a drain-and-spin. If it bangs hard against the cabinet, stop — that can be a suspension or bearing issue, not heroics with more towels.
When “no spin” is internal
Empty tub, lock clicking, drain humming to completion, and still no spin is motor, shifter, hub, or control territory. Write down any code. Codes are not universal across Whirlpool laundry platforms, so a letter pair from a neighbor’s machine is not a parts list for yours.
