Dryers need two things at once: a heat source and a way for moist air to leave the house. Homeowners often replace nothing and still “fix” a slow dryer by cleaning a crushed vent hose. They also sometimes have a perfectly clear vent and a failed element, igniter, or thermal fuse. The visit starts with the lint screen, the visible hose, and whether the exterior flap opens — then moves inside.
Gas and electric cabinets share drums and blowers; they do not share heat systems. A gas dryer that tumbles cold is not an electric element job. A burning smell is a reason to stop the next load, not to “see if one more cycle helps.”
If clothes are coming out hotter than they should and still damp, treat that as a restriction until proven otherwise. Heat plus trapped lint is a fire problem, not an inconvenience.

Safety first Stop the dryer if you smell burning or see lint scorching. Do not run it with the lint screen removed. Gas dryers with an odor should stay off. Internal heater housings are not a homeowner inspection.
