Ice makers fail as a subsystem. A closed water valve behind the refrigerator, a spent filter, a full bin that tripped the shutoff, or a harvest arm that never moves can all look like “no ice” while the milk is fine. That is useful: you are not necessarily looking at a sealed-system repair.
If you see a leak at the filter housing or the freezer floor is a skating rink, stop using the ice maker and catch the water. Ice production is optional; a flood is not.
Water, freeze, harvest
Confirm the supply valve is open and the tubing is not folded behind the cabinet. If your model uses an inline filter, a clogged cartridge will starve the ice maker first. Give a newly installed filter several cycles; the first dumps can be air.
The bin and the shutoff
Remove the bin and look for ice fused into a block that jammed the mold. On some doors, a felt pad or a package can hold the shutoff lever up so the maker thinks the bin is full. None of that requires removing the freezer back wall.
When harvest never happens
Water in the mold that never dumps, a clicking module that never ejects, or ice that is hollow and stuck needs diagnosis. Do not chip at the mold with a knife. Do not heat the evaporator cover with a torch to “help it along.”
