Quick answer

Model note: Whirlpool reuses codes across series and model years, so oL may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

What this codemay mean.
A plain-language reading of the code — always confirm against your model’s documentation.
Mean
The load is too large if oL (overloaded) appears in the display.
oL: the load is too large
An oL (overloaded) display on a Whirlpool top load washer means you have put in too large a load.
Steps in the manual
With the error showing:
Stop the cycle with the Start button, or pull the power cord.
If there is water in the washer, run a drain-only cycle.
Rearrange the clothing or remove some pieces before starting again, so the load is level and not overloaded. The Bulky or Heavy Duty cycle is a suggestion.
If washing is already complete and you want the water out, a Drain & Spin cycle works after the load is rearranged.
If the cycle can be paused, press Start, open the lid, reduce the load size and press Start once more.
If oL appears again with a smaller load, Los Angeles Whirlpool washer repair is a call away at (310) 448-6692. Note the code, the model number and the load you tried.
Stop immediately if you notice smoke, sparks, a burning smell, gas odor, or water near electrical parts.
