Quick answer
OFb (also written ofb) means an off-balance load that the washer could not fix on its own.
Model note: Whirlpool reuses codes across series and model years, so OFb may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Whirlpool®
What this codemay mean.
A plain-language reading of the code — always confirm against your model’s documentation.
Mean
Off-balance load that automated methods could not correct; the load must be redistributed manually.
What OFb means
OFb, which may also appear as ofb, tells you the load in a Whirlpool top load washer is out of balance. The washer could not fix it through automated methods, so it needs you to redistribute the load evenly around the washplate.
If the error is showing
Cancel the cycle by pressing Start or by disconnecting the power cord.
Run a drain-only cycle if there is water in the tub.
Rearrange the clothing or take out some items so the load is level and not overloaded. The manual suggests trying the Bulky or Heavy Duty cycle.
Optional: if the wash is done and you only need to extract water, run Drain & Spin after rearranging.
If the cycle can be paused
Press Start to pause, open the lid, rearrange the clothes or reduce the load size, then press Start again to restart.
Stop immediately if you notice smoke, sparks, a burning smell, gas odor, or water near electrical parts.
Safe
Important
