Whirlpool

What this code may mean.

A plain-language reading of the code — always confirm against your model’s documentation.

FdL or F29 means the door cannot unlock.

FdL, also shown as F29, tells you that the door of a Whirlpool compact front load washer cannot unlock. Water may still be in the machine.

Steps in order

  1. Press firmly on the door near the door lock, then touch and hold the Power button for at least 3 seconds.
  2. If a Hot cycle was selected, wait until the washer has cooled down and hold Power again for at least 3 seconds.
  3. Turn the washer on. If the code is still there, correct the possible cause given for the “Clean filter” code, and turn the washer on again.
  4. If the door stays locked, hold Power for at least 3 seconds once more.

The Drain Pump Filter may need cleaning; see “Cleaning the Drain Pump Filter” in the Cleaning and Maintenance section of the manual. If the door still will not unlock, use the “How to Open Door in Case of Failure” section of your Owner’s Manual. For hot wash programs, let the water cool before draining or opening the door.

Applies to

Compact front load washers.
