Whirlpool

Code overview at a glance.

The facts for this Whirlpool error, a plain-language snapshot, and what to confirm against your model number.

Error code F8E1 / Lo FL
Appliance Washer
Quick answer

F8E1 or Lo FL on towers, front and top load washers: incorrect incoming water amount.

Model note: Whirlpool reuses codes across series and model years, so F8E1 / Lo FL may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

Whirlpool

What this code may mean.

A plain-language reading of the code — always confirm against your model’s documentation.

F8E1 (also shown as Lo FL) means the washer is not detecting the correct amount of incoming water.

F8 E1, shown as Lo FL on front load washers, means the washer is not detecting the correct amount of incoming water. It is covered for laundry towers (washer section), front load washers and top load washers.

If the door is locked

With this code the door may stay locked and the control may not respond. Press the power button and the washer starts a drain routine of approximately 8 to 10 minutes while the pump runs without a break. No input is accepted in that time, so wait 10 minutes before trying anything.

Check the water supply

  • Open the hot and cold water valves fully; both inlet hoses have to be connected.
  • Look for kinked hoses, which restrict flow.
  • Hot (red) hose goes to the hot (red) valve, cold (blue) hose to the cold (blue) valve.
  • Inlet screens can clog with mineral build-up or debris. Turn off the water supply, remove the hoses and check the screens, cleaning or replacing as needed.
  • Connect the washer directly to the water supply. Anti-flood devices can cut the pressure and the amount of water entering.

Hoses and drain

To test a supply hose, uninstall it and run water through at a sink; if the stream is restricted, replace the hose. Also check the drain hose: it should extend more than 4.5″ (113 mm) into the drainpipe, using the U-shape drain hose form, and it should not be sealed in with tape.

Reset the control

Disconnect the washer for 5 minutes, restore power and retry. If the code returns, schedule service.

Related codes

F8E2 (a drawer or dispenser alert) and F8E3 (overflow) are close neighbours; F8E4 lists a flow meter and F8E5 a reversed water supply.
