Quick answer
The H2O light is a filter indicator on bottom-freezer refrigerators. Replace the filter, then reset the status light.
Model note: Whirlpool reuses codes across series and model years, so H2O Light may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

What this codemay mean.
A plain-language reading of the code — always confirm against your model’s documentation.
Mean
The H2O light signals that the water filter should be replaced.
The H2O light on a bottom-freezer refrigerator is a filter indicator rather than a fault code. Whirlpool Product Help recommends replacing the water filter every 6 months, when the indicator light comes on, or as needed.
When the filter needs changing
Depending on your usage and water quality, the filter may need to be changed more often. A clogged or improperly installed filter can reduce water flow to the ice maker and dispenser, which can mean low ice production and slower water flow.
Resetting the filter status
Change the filter.
Press and hold the LIGHT and ICE TYPE buttons for 3 seconds.
The status light turns off once the system is reset.
Related indicators
Two other listings you may run into: PO is the power outage indicator, and FEE3 is a flashing F code whose steps include checking the water supply.
