Whirlpool®
Service for ventilation.
Whirlpool ventilation is a grease-handling fan, not a decorative canopy. If the kitchen still fogs, the air is not leaving — through dirty filters, a packed blower, or a duct that collapsed in the cabinet.

About this appliance.
Baffle or mesh filters are the first choke point and the one you can wash. Behind them, the blower wheel collects the grease that got past. Island hoods and inserts hide that wheel differently than a 30-inch under-cabinet unit, but the physics are the same.
Ducted hoods need a path to the exterior. Recirculating hoods need charcoal filters changed on a schedule. Mixing those setups — or running a “ducted” hood into a blocked cap — produces the same weak suction complaint.
Lights and electronic controls fail on their own. A hood that fans but will not light is not automatically a motor job.

Common symptoms to watch for.
Typical signs that this Whirlpool appliance needs on-site diagnosis.
Steam lingering over the pans
Rattle, grind, or a fan that only runs on one speed
Lights out
Buttons dead or the hood dark entirely
Downdraft that will not rise
Safety first Switch the hood off at the breaker before pulling heavy grease filters if you have to reach near the blower. Do not cook on gas for a long stretch with a hood that will not start.

Frequently asked questions.
For daily cooking, monthly washing is a reasonable habit. Fried food and wok heat need it sooner. If suction is still poor after a wash, the blower or duct is next.
Sometimes. A new grinding note is more likely a wheel hitting the housing than “high power.”
Only if the hood’s manual includes a charcoal-filter kit. That is a configuration change, not a repair for a seized motor.
