Wall ovens are not ranges without a cooktop. They are a cavity, a pair of heating modes, a sensor, and a door that must latch for high-heat cleaning. Combination steam ovens add a water tank and a different leak path.
Double ovens share a cutout and sometimes a control. Saying “upper oven” versus “both” saves a second visit. A cheap oven thermometer on the center rack, after a full preheat, is more honest than judging by one tray of cookies.
If the door is locked, wait for a full cool-down. Forcing it damages the latch and the door.

If broil glows and there is no burning smell or lockout, some people use it as a stopgap. It will not bake a cake.
