A Whirlpool dryer is a tumbler, a blower, and a heat source fighting lint. Long cycles are usually the vent. Cold tumbling is usually the heat system. Those are not the same repair.

About this appliance.
Electric dryers heat with an element. Gas dryers heat with an igniter and a burner. Both push air through a blower and out a hose that homeowners crush when they shove the cabinet against the wall.
The lint screen is not the whole vent. If the exterior flap stays shut or you see lint mushrooms outside, the run is restricted even when the screen looks clean. Moisture sensors on the drum can also be filmed with softener, which makes the dryer “think” the load is dry.
A hot, scorched smell is the end of the experiment. Pull the clothes and leave the dryer off.
